Welcome to the White Cross

Richmond’s best-loved riverside pub, famous for top-notch pints, home-cooked, seasonally-sensational British food, and the best views in town. Whether it’s lunch on the Thames (and occasionally in it), no trip to Richmond is truly complete without a pit stop to us. And if you’ve got a four-legged, mud-covered sidekick (or just muddy boots of your own), don’t worry, we welcome both with open arms.

Food & Drink

Our kitchen dishes up the very best of British food day in, day out, from laid-back, long-lunching afternoons to sunset date nights (the kind where you steal chips off their plate). Fancy a round of beers with your nearest-and-dearest crew, riverside-style? We’ve got you covered. Whatever the occasion, we’re serving up proper-good plates with a side of unbeatable views.

Summer of Spritz

Welcome to golden-hour-glow, spritz-sippin’, big-beer-garden-energy heaven (aka the spot everyone’s suddenly “just popping by” for). We’re pouring zesty, sparkle-loaded Sparkling Margs and fruit-packed, dangerously-gluggable Hugo Spritzes and more all summer - the kind of drinks that turn “one quick” into “okay but just one more” real fast.

Richmond's favourite Sunday Roast

Wind down the week with a bang: a chill day for you, and a let’s-go-all-out feast from us. Our belt-loosening roasts boast tender-slow-cooked meats, towering double egg Yorkies, and rich-as-it-gets proper pub gravy, along with dig-in-and-share sides and a pudding that’s sweet-as-a-hug, all best paired with a better-have-another pint in the sun for the perfect Sunday.

Welcome to the best riverside pub in Richmond

Serving Young’s fine ales since 1869 and rebuilt in 1780, The White Cross is not just a pub, but a richly-rooted, heart-of-the-community landmark (and a local treasure, if we may say so). Nestled on the banks of the Thames, we have stood the test of time (and water!), offering the best spot to soak in those famous, golden-hued riverside sunsets.

No visit to Richmond is complete without a stop at our place aka ‘the pub that floods’ – where the Thames has been lapping at our door since 1780. And if the river decides to flood, just remember, wellies were only invented in 1790, so we’ve been dealing with high water long before wellies were even a thing.

This summer, slap on the SPF, whack on your sunnies and roll up those sleeves – this is your excuse to sink into a sun-soaked spot by the river and pretend you’re only staying for one. Cold pints, crisps on the table, sunglasses on until weirdly late, and someone inevitably doing the “shall we just get another?” dance when nobody’s moved in hours. It’s all very first round at 2pm, checking the time at 7pm energy at ours.

Pick at the bits in the middle, nick a chip off your mate’s plate, line up another drink and let the afternoon do what it does best. No plans, no rush, just that golden-hour, sleeves up, why would we leave sort of mood.

Simon and the team cannot wait to welcome you.

High Tide Hen

High Tide Hen Shack is here (and yes, it’s getting saucy). From Friday eve through to Sunday, we’re slinging crispy-coated, spice loaded, finger-lickin’ chicken goodness right by the river – just in time for peak pint in hand, sun on your face, “should we order more?” moments.

Think wings-to-write-home-about, outrageously good spice bags, and that perfect level of messy (napkins? optional, vibes? mandatory). It’s the kind of food that pairs suspiciously well with a cold drink and absolutely zero plans. Whether you’re riding the high tide or just here for the crispy-crunch, sauce-dripping, weekend-fuelled feasting, the High Tide Hen Shack is your go-to.

Pull up, dig in, and prepare for a “one portion turned into three” situation.

Summer of Spritz

Welcome to river-glow, spritz-sippin’, tide watching heaven (aka the pub that floods… and yes, that’s part of the charm). One minute you’re “just popping by,” next minute you’re perched riverside with a drink in hand watching the Thames do its thing. We’re pouring zesty, sparkle loaded Spritzes and fruit-packed, dangerously-gluggable Hugos – the kind of drinks that turn “one quick by the river” into “okay but we’re absolutely staying for sunset” (and maybe the tide coming in… just for the plot).

Hungry? We’ve got fresh-and-flavour-packed, summer-on-a-plate salads and light-bites-that-turn-into-a-full-spread (because no one ever orders just one thing here). So grab your crew, find your riverside spot, and settle in for a sun-soaked, spritz-fuelled, tide-creeping afternoon that slowly (and spectacularly) turns into evening.

Fair warning: you will be messaging “OMG… the pub’s flooding and we’re still here” later.

Sunday Roasts

Every Sunday, we dish up the most mouthwatering, roast-perfect plates in Richmond, packed with all the trimmings (because Sundays are serious business here). Think crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside roast potatoes, sky-high double egg Yorkies, and lashings of rich, can’t-get-enough gravy (the kind you’ll be dreaming about later). End with a we-must-do-this-more-often pint by our crackling fire, well you’ll have the most perfect Sunday ever!

Watch the World Cup by the river

For one of the most unique places to watch the World Cup in Richmond, head to the White Cross on the riverside. Sitting right on the Thames, this is the go-to spot for football with a view.

We’re showing all the big matches, including outdoors on our big screen on our terrace – and there’s no need to book. Simply swing by, grab a pint and join the action. The atmosphere builds from first whistle to last-minute winner as locals and visitors pack the riverside, pints in hand, roaring at every near miss and losing their minds at every net-busting goal.

If you’re searching for pubs showing the World Cup in Richmond with outdoor screens and a lively, walk-in friendly atmosphere, we promise to deliver football, fresh air and unbeatable riverside energy.
